Tournament Format
At the Spider College Debate Tournament the college national resolution (agreed to by CEDA vote) will be debated. Participants will engage in eight rounds of preliminary competition (7 plus teach-in for novices). The time limits will be 9-3-6 with 10 minutes of prep. Hybrids can compete and clear if approved at least one week before the tournament.
The ADA divisions of novice, JV, and open will be in effect. Half of the teams (rounding down) in each bracket will advance. Teams will advance into elimination rounds based on the following criteria:
1) win-loss record, 2) adjusted team points, 3) double-adjusted team points, 4) total team points, 5) opp wins, 6) total team ranks; and, 7) coin toss. We will not break brackets. Advancing teams when a school meets itself will be up to the discretion of the coach and the school involved.
Awards
Trophies for 1/4ers or beyond in each division and speaker awards to the top 10 debaters in each division. Speaks will be determined by: 1) adjusted speaker points, 2) double-adjusted speaker points , 3) total speaker points, 4) total ranks, 5) adjusted ranks, 6) win-loss record, 7) thumb wrestling best 2 out 3 matches. Our speaker awards also function as writing utensils.
