University of Richmond

The University of Richmond Debate Team, housed in the Weinberg Debate Center in Weinstein Hall, offers an intense academic experience involving in-depth research, the meticulous construction of briefs and extensive oral argumentation. The debate team routinely competes in public tournaments against nationally recognized debating societies at other prominent universities and hosts a national-level tournament that draws teams from across the country and offers eight rounds of debate in novice and varsity divisions.

Richmond students benefit from intense debate competition as well as from the ability to serve as mentors and teachers during the University of Richmond National Debate Institute, which attracts a number of high school debaters from across the country. At the end of their college experience, students graduate armed with an arsenal of tools for success, including the ability to communicate an idea to a diverse audience, the ability to perform well on standardized tests such as the GRE or the LSAT, and the ability to research and compile complex arguments in an organized and compelling way. As the debate team grows, it furthers its commitment to provide an unparalleled educational experience that challenges even the most gifted undergraduates.
